Pottery
I love to try new forms of art and I love to get messy! When my church,
The Raleigh Vineyard
, offered a pottery class I signed up immediately. Why a pottery class at a Church? Pottery is mentioned frequently in the Bible...
We are the pottery. We’ve been formed from clay. God shaped Adam from the clay of the earth. The apostle Paul referred to our bodies as “jars of clay” (2 Cor. 4:7). He said God wants to form us into “a vessel for honor, sanctified and useful for the Master, prepared for every good work” (2 Tim. 2:21). Job said, “Your hands have made me and fashioned me...You have made me like clay” (Job 10:8-9).
God wants to use our experiences as tools to shape and sculpt us into the image of Jesus, deepening our faith as we go.
Sometimes I think I'm bad clay, unusable. Maybe I've done something for which I feel shame and guilt. My problems and pain are usually the result of my own stupidity and selfishness. No matter how big a mess I've made, God can take my sins and shame and mold them in
to something good.
Creating a masterpiece takes time and patience. Of course, I prefer instant gratification! I struggle with wanting to be in control, trying to tell God what I want Him to do in my life. I am the clay and God is the creator! I need to remind myself daily to be patient and undergo the processes of being molded and reshaped by Him.
"Have no fear of perfection, you'll never reach it."
